SUMMARY:Dynamic Interplay of Policy\, Curriculum\, and Practice in Korean Mathematics Education
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Kyungwon Lee\, a PhD candidate at Seoul National University\, this webinar session aims to provide insights into classroom practices related to computational thinking\, data science\, and AI in the U.S. mathematics education context\, drawing on the Korean case. Register online. \nIn Korea\, the national curriculum is periodically revised and recent issues such as computational thinking\, data science\, and AI\, have been introduced at the policy level\, leading to active changes in school-level practices. The webinar examines how these themes are reflected in Korean mathematics education through the lens of interplay among policy\, curriculum\, and practice; presenting cases of technological tools and professional development programs that support this interplay. \nThis session will include short hands-on activities and discussions\, offering participants an opportunity to reflect on data science\, computational thinking\, and AI into their own mathematics teaching practices.

SUMMARY:10th National Flagway Tournament and Math Playground
DESCRIPTION:The 10th National Flagway™ Tournament and Math Playground is a dual-format\, youth-led celebration of math literacy bringing together students\, families\, educators\, and community partners on the MIT campus during the 2026 Year of Math. \nThe day begins with the Math Playground—an open\, family-friendly arena featuring 25+ interactive math games designed for K–8 learners and led by high school Math Literacy Workers (MLWs). Participants can explore hands-on activities that make math creative\, collaborative\, and accessible for all ages. \nThe event culminates in the National Flagway™ Tournament\, a fast-paced\, team-based competition built on the Möbius function\, where middle school teams are coached by high school MLWs using YPP’s distinctive near-peer leadership model. Students don’t just solve math problems—they strategize\, move\, collaborate\, and lead. \nWhat makes this event different is that young people are at the center. High school leaders design\, facilitate\, and coach the experience\, building confidence and serving their communities while younger students gain access to welcoming\, high-energy math learning. \nFamilies\, educators\, and supporters are invited to attend\, observe\, participate\, and celebrate a public vision of math where leadership\, inclusion\, and opportunity take center stage. \nfor more information visit: typp.org \n\nCONTACT\nCharlenne · charlenne@typp.org

SUMMARY:Australia’s School Mathematics Curriculum and Education Policy
DESCRIPTION:This session will be on Australia’s School Mathematics Curriculum and Education Policy presented by Justine Sakurai\, Lecturer\, University of Melbourne\, Australia. Register online. \nAustralia’s federated education system presents a compelling case study in curriculum policy reform. This presentation traces how national curriculum standards\, assessment frameworks\, and professional learning have been sequenced to integrate computational thinking\, data science\, and AI into K–12 mathematics. \nCentral to this work is Australia’s innovative computational thinking framework. It embeds algorithmic reasoning and mathematical modelling as foundational practices\, not standalone additions. \nDrawing on the current Australian Curriculum (Standards) and state-level responses\, the session offers concrete insights into policy\, curriculum\, and assessment design that drives equitable and sustainable integration across mathematics education.
